Blackbuck poaching case – Salman Khan is in Jail for 5 years.

The Sultan of Bollywood is not getting his “Sultani khatirdari” right now.  The Jodhpur court convicted the fifty-two years old Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in a 1998 blackbuck poaching case in which the actor was accused of killing two blackbucks, an endangered species.

The Blackbuck poaching case:

The incident happened in 1998 at the shooting of “Hum Saath Saath Hain” in Rajasthan when Salman Khan apparently went on a shooting safari with his co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam in Jodhpur’s Kankani village. There he killed two blackbucks with his shooting rifle. The local Bishnoi community filed a case against Salman and the other actors.

The charges against Salman:

Salman Khan had been charged under section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act and the other four stars were accused face charges under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.

Cases against Salman Khan:

There were four separate cases against Mr. Khan.

Case #1

27 September 1998, Salman hunted a Chinkara on the border of Bhawad village in the outer parts of Jodhpur.

Case #2

28 September 1998, he killed two Chinkaras near Ghoda Farm in Osian region of Jodhpur.

Case #3

On 2nd October 1998, Khan went on a shooting safari with his four co-stars (Saif, Tabu, Sonali, and Neelam) and killed two blackbucks in Jodhpur’s Kankani village.

Case #4

The fourth case was under the Arms Act, where Salman was accused to have a .32 revolver and .22 rifle, recovered from his hotel room after the poaching cases were registered against him. The police seized the weapons on 15 October 1998 while his arms license has already expired on 22 September 1998.

 

Note:

  • The Jodhpur court cleared Salman in the fourth case in January 2017 but the Rajasthan court appealed against the decision to the District Judges Court.
  • On 25 July 2017, judge Nirmaljeet Kaur discharged Salman Khan in both Bhawad and Ghoda Chinkara case.
  • On 5 April 2018, the Jodhpur court convicted Salman Khan in blackbuck poaching case and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
The current scenario:

Salman was taken to Jodhpur’s Central Jail. There he has to spend the night as Qaidi 106 next to Asaram Bapu.
